Many people forget that spoken and written communication are different animals. Once when I was working for a writing agency, I had to create “notes” of interviews that our end-client conducted with guests. My supervisor forwarded me the following feedback:
“This draft was exceptionally good. Thank you SO much for the internal links, free gift conclusion/CTA, and all of the other goodness in between.”
(03) Lifespaces
Client: State of North Carolina Document Type: Qualitative Research; Process document (Executive Management audiences)
As I was assisting with the standards guide, I felt it necessary to audit my teams’ writing and content development processes. My experience as a Writing Center Coordinator at the University of Mount Olive readily informed my decisions, and my intuition for this need was spot on: eventually, all the content developers were laid off due to budget cuts. My experience in business and communication consulting and investigative interviewing has become an oft-used skill.
